• It's hard to say which part of the trip we enjoyed the most. Our trip was very diverse and can only be described using superlatives. The trip was set up well, starting with a laidback coffee tour and mountain biking. This gave us a chance to acclimatise and get to know locals. The safari days were excellent and so were the days spent on the beaches of Zanzibar. Stone Town was a great place to end our trip. Anja van R.

• The combination of different countries, parks, types of accommodation and non-safari excursions made our trip very enjoyable. We loved being able to drive just about anywhere we wanted to without having to stick to the (few) main roads. It allowed us to get much closer to the animals. Mark R.

• I would like to thank you for organising our trip perfectly. Our trip went off without a hitch, making our trip a very pleasant one. We had an excellent driver who was always in great mood. He took us on the stellar game drives and quickly solved any small problems we ran into. We had a wonderful time; we saw the Big 5 and the people we met were very friendly. We hope to head back in the future to see more of Tanzania, if possible with our personal driver Musa. Liesbeth S.

Our safari started out at Lake Manyara. This was our first encounter with the lovely animals we would see quite a lot of during the rest of the week. The lodge in Karatu is a great place to dine and spend the night and the level of service was so incredible that it almost left us blushing. During our safari our guide shared interesting facts about the Masai way of life and about the area they've lived in for ages. He could also tell us all about the animals we spotted (sometimes it took us much longer to spot them...). As an added bit of service, he even brought along a colourfully illustrated bird guide book that he would hand over to us - open to the correct page - every time we saw another "oh, how beautiful" bird. 

During our safari we also went camping. In the past we've spent many summers camping, but we usually never ate anything more complicated than macaroni or a rice dish with a side salad. However here we were at a campsite without any facilities enjoying dinner and drinks as if we were in a restaurant! The showers were cold, but we would grab a bucket or two of warm water from the kitchen to make washing up more pleasant. The trip to the Serengeti was another indescribably beautiful and interesting journey. Along the way we encountered many different animals such as a leopard lodged high up in a tree with his prey stashed in another tree nearby. We also saw herds of elephants, dozens of hippos and countless lionesses as well as sausage trees, weaver-bird nests, a hyena, a black mamba, lions and cheetahs standing on rock formations. We also enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Olduvai Gorge, a simply stunning location. Anja van R.

The next day it was time for the coffee tour - it was simply fantastic! It's such a wonderful concept and a fun module to boot! It really made me realise how spoiled we Europeans are. After getting to know the area we stopped off for a banana soup and banana beer lunch. 

The following day the trip continued in earnest as we cycled through city traffic on our mountain bikes. Luckily we had two incredible guides with us, Michael and Ibra, who lead us into the bush for our first encounter with monkeys and other animals as well as the people who lived in the bush. We chewed on sugar cane, visited a 'carrot-wash' and had a delicious lunch at a local café. We also passed by rice paddies, sugar cane plantations, small villages and rivers. The entire trip was one incredible adventure. Breakfast was also very well cared for, there was so much fruit that we never really needed to take our vitamins. In the end we even got to see the Kilimanjaro after it had been hidden by mist for several days. Anja van R.

During our visit to Zanzibar we stayed at a very well maintained, beautiful location. It was splendid being able to walk straight out of our room and onto the white sandy beach whilst feeling the warm, soft sand between our toes. The view of the azure blue sea and palm trees was the icing on the cake. I would love to go back anytime. The small-scale accommodation made our stay feel very personal and it was a great place to relax. The room was very well maintained and the food was very tasty. We also enjoyed exploring the island by rental car. I have very pleasant memories of children standing by the roadside smiling and waving as we drove by.

Recommendation: catch a plane instead of a boat from Zanzibar to Dar Es Salaam. The 2-hour boat trip on rough seas proved to be a little too much for many passengers; more than a few became nauseous. It was a very interesting experience - I managed to keep from becoming nauseous by sitting in the back of the boat. My friend passed the time by playing cards with others on the boat. Renée W.

We booked a safari and Mount Kilimanjaro climb. The trip was very special to us and there were more than a few highlights. We chose to do the Marangu Route so that we would be able to enjoy some level of comfort during stay.  During the climb, our guide Diddas continuously reassured us that we should climb at our own pace and that we shouldn't push ourselves too hard. Despite adversity (a lorry that flipped and a porter who experienced Acute Mountain Sickness) both the Serengeti team and the Kilimanjaro team made our trip an unforgettable one. They were friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and the Kilimanjaro team was dressed far more appropriately than other teams which proved to us that the local agent takes good care of his mountain guides and porters. The combination safari and beach was absolutely wonderful! We felt as if we were away for 3 weeks instead of just 9 days. At times the road trips to the various destinations were very long and the roads leading to them very poor, but by knowing about this ahead of time we didn't have to worry about it. When in Africa you really learn how to adopt the 'hakuna matata' way of thinking. Our accommodation at Diani Beach was very luxurious. The rooms were well maintained and had air conditioning. The surrounding area was fairytale-like: white sandy beaches lined with palm trees and hardly a cloud in the sky. During our stay on the coast we were also able to meet the local agent. We also let him know that we found everything to be very well organised. I don't have any recommendations for improvement. The only thing I can say is that I will definitely recommend that others book with you as well. Moniek R.
